I guess what I like best about Alert is that they cater to my needs. I love the solution they came up with to streamline my order, pick up, delivery, and return system through the use of bar coding. This year the Alert President and the Vice President of Programming Development made a special trip to my store to meet with me and other rental store owners in the area to listen to some new ideas we have about new features we dreamed up. I attend the Annual Users’ Group meeting every year because it is fun, I get to share notes with the most successful operators in the country, and Alert puts on a wonderful conference all focused around my profitability. Plus we users get to help determine what Alert will do for us next. I attribute at least some of our success to Alert’s systems.

It works great with my Microsoft Dynamics Accounting Software. What impresses me is that they seem to give a darn. Their top executives even answer the support line when things get busy. The other day their CEO picked up the phone, handled my request, and then told me how I could save some money on credit card processing charges by working with another company they discovered, who specializes in lowering credit card processing charges. They are very creative. There’s no question that they understand that their own profitability depends on the profitability of their clients.

General Rental

I participate in their accelerated delivery program so that I can be among the first to get their latest innovations. Alert interfaces beautifully with my Peachtree Accounting software. Our International Alert Users’ Association is the largest in their category. Alert puts on a great three day conference every year for us. I love their presentations, the Advisory Groups, and the chance to control what Alert does next to enhance our systems. In addition to Alert’s own ideas, the users vote every year on a good portion of the new enhancements they provide in subsequent software releases. They really do follow out direction. Alert is the best!

Higgins Rental

Many years ago I purchased Alert EasyPro to run my rental store and sell building materials. Almost 20 years later we still run Alert Software. Their rental software is state- of-the-art. For my building material business they created a custom software solution that is fully integrated into Alert and lets us price steel roofing. So if you are a rental store (equipment or party) or selling building material with a rental division you need to look at Alert; but only if you want to get serious about making money

P.S. Keeping systems up online is very important to me. So over the years we have followed Alert’s recommendations on updating servers and equipment. To date we have only been without computers (hard drive crash) three days in 20 years with no data loss!

Lasting Impressions Event Rentals

I have to tell you, I LOVE having the ability to write these reports. We now have dozens of regularly used custom reports, and the possibilities seem endless. I have built about 1 report every month since learning how to use the report writer, and find this program SO much more user friendly than MS Access or Crystal Reports. I was never able to write a single report for Enfinity, because the program language of Crystal Reports was SO cumbersome.

I know that you are aware of the dedication of the support staff that you have for Alert, but I want to pass along my compliments.

I asked Jeff about a specific report that would make my life easier when I close out the figures at the end of each month, and he came up with a special report to address that. I think he could just as easily said “sorry, Vern, we do not have anything like that in the system”, but he did not and he came up with something that works.

Last month we had an error when trying to un-strand a bid, and my problem eventually went to Chris Z and he arrived at a solution. However, it meant that our system would have to be down while he took care of it. I told him that we were quite busy and to be down, even in the evening, would be inconvenient. We then set a date (10/5) that would work for both of us. He was ready to do it last night without any advance reminders from me and his work went on successfully. I was impressed that I did not have to keep reminding him about the date, he was ready as planned.

I balance sales tax at the end of each month and match up the GL sales tax with the tax entity report and normally the two figures match. September became a challenge as the two figures were $1800 apart, so I called Mary C to figure out what to do. It became a little complicated but she stuck with the situation until it was resolved, I know she spent time on it when she probably could have been doing something else. Even after it was apparently corrected, she still reviewed a number of contracts to make doubly sure that our figures were accurate.

I realize that maybe the things above are just part of their jobs, but I think that they frequently go past it a little just to make sure that we get answers. I know that you have many other clients, but I often feel like that we are sometimes your only customer with the responses that I get from your staff.

The users conference is terrific, I really have to make this conference every year, I tell the owner which is my dad actually and my wife and the rest of the people who I work with, that I learn so much here, it’s like drinking out of a fire hydrant. You have so much information coming to you, its amazing. Every time I come, I learn so much.

Going to an event like this, you have all sorts of rental stores at all different levels. And someone at a smaller level doesn’t realize some of the options available to them. And it’s very interesting to have conversations with them and see them learn new things. We obviously see organizations that are larger than us and we learn that we had no idea the system had that feature. Being here really opens our minds to what’s out there, seeing what’s available and hopefully get to go back and put it to use.

Looking back when we first started, and especially at the party and banquet end, we use to spend so much time just writing up a customer and to think of the reservations… I don’t even know how we did it. There were over bookings that didn’t know about it till the last minute, and we were maybe running up to Chicago to get barstools that we didn’t know we were over booked for. We want to focus on our business and Alert has helped us to do that. .

Our salesmen are now using iPads that they can connect back at the office through iAlert and check the status of equipment and write the ticket. Service is impeccable, we’re on the priority service. If we have an issue, it’s resolved immediately, and we have never had a service issue.
